Alexander Alvaro, shadow rapporteur data regulation & ALDE MEP, shares his thoughts on Data Regulation with leading technology journalist Jennifer Baker.

Alvaro elaborates on the differences between data legislation concerning law-enforcement and privacy issues. Furthermore, attention is paid to the so-called ‘right to be forgotten’, cookies legislation as well as to dealing with companies located outside Europe providing data related services to EU citizens.

About Jennifer Baker

Jennifer has been a journalist in print, radio and television for more than 12 years. She has worked across a wide range of sectors, from editing a national daily paper in Malta, to television reporting to the Middle East on EU affairs. She has a wealth of experience in writing about business, management and IT matters and specialises in identifying the link between industry and policy. She studied in both Northern Ireland and France and lived in the UK and Malta for many years.

Jennifer founded Figure8media Ltd, a communications business in 2005. Figure8media's achievements include The Strategic Path magazine being awarded the Australian 2008 iAwards; winning the contract to edit HAE’s membership magazine Hire Standard; and successfully launching Ecoideas before selling it on to new owners. She moved to Brussels to work as a freelance EU correspondent in February 2009.

Jennifer is the Brussels correspondent for the International Data Group  which publishes numerous publications on technology. She covers all aspects of policy relating to IT, from trade agreements for tech products to antitrust cases and internet privacy issues.

She wants to visit Syria next year and says her French is still rusty, but returning.
