About Mikael Carpelan
Mikael Carpelan began his journalistic career in 1978, working for a current affairs television program at the Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle) before switching to the news department where he followed world events as a Diplomatic Correspondent and then as European Correspondent in Brussels.
Mikael then joined the Finnish Foreign Service as Press Counsellor at the EU Representation in Brussels covering notably the first Finnish Presidency of the EU in 1999. From 2004 to 2007, he acted as Audiovisual Counsellor at the Press Office of the Secretariat of the Council of the EU.
Mikael has a Master's degree in Political Science. His native languages are Swedish and French, in addition he also speaks English and Finnish and gets along in German, Italian and Spanish. He is currently taking classes in Catalan.
Mikael also gives media training and works for the European Journalism Centre as a course leader.
His interests range from "les arts de la bouche" through dictionaries and languages, book binding and trecking, to flamenco dancing.
