NSA spying scandal: EU should suspend TTIP negotiations, claims GUE/NGL Group

March 12, 2014 - ICT

Jennifer Baker is joined by David Lundy, press officer for the GUE/NGL Group, to discuss the European Union’s response to the NSA surveillance scandal.

The press officer for the GUE/NGL Group calls for a stricter EU response to the NSA spying scandal: “we should suspend TTIP negotiations, as well as the Passenger Name Records (PNR) agreement”. According to Lundy, the current reaction to the NSA’s spying activities shows that the EU-US economic relations are more important than fundamental citizens’ rights. Lundy underlines that EU should be more ambitious: “if the EU leaders are too afraid to stand for the citizens’ rights, they should at least protect their personal rights”.
