October 21, 2013 - ICT

Jennifer Baker is joined by Antti Timonen, spokesperson for the EPP Group, to discuss the discussion of Data Protection in the Committee for Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs on Monday evening.

Reforming the EU’s Personal Data Protection Directive has been raised by Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship. The proposal, which still can not be agreed upon in the European Parliament is met with an overwhelming amount of amendments, however, a compromise is expected to be reached,  explains spokesperson Timonen. This amendment to the 1995 directive presents new protection mechanisms, not only for individuals, but also for businesses to operate much more transparently.
