Swiss out of EU funded innovation projects: “huge disadvantage for them”, Commissioner Geoghegan-Quinn claims

March 12, 2014 - Foreign Affairs & Trade

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, talks to Jennifer Baker about the suspension of Switzerland’s involvement in the Horizon 2020 programme as a response to the Swiss vote on the reintroduction of immigration quotas with the EU.

Furthermore, the Commissioner stresses the importance of 3rd countries and internationalisation in European innovation policy. “Around the world, people have sat up and said: ‘the European Union is really on top of their game now, they want to invite everybody in, so let’s be involved’. So now we are picky and choosy, we want to see what is best we can do in collaboration with” each of these countries.
