The European Parliament recently backed negotiations on the EU-US free trade agreement, known as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). Leading foreign affairs journalist Lénaïc Vaudin d’Imécourt is joined by Daniel Hamilton, Director of the Center for Transatlantic Relations at Johns Hopkins University, to discuss what is at stake in these negotiations.
The goal of both the EU and US is to reach agreement before the end of EC President Barroso’s mandate. The United States remain Europe’s most important investor: foreign direct investment in Europe in 2012 amounted to about €158 billion.
“It’s quite remarkable that in the United States, at least right now, there is no organised political opposition to TTIP [Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership].”
In this viEUws and B2 video programme, Johanna Bouquet - Journalist at B2 - is joined by Nicolas Gros-Verheyde, editor in chief of Bruxelles2, to discuss the main issues on the agenda of the Foreign Affairs Council on Monday 15 February 2016.
