“EU-Japan FTA would bring great benefits for EU economy”, claims EPP Group

January 28, 2014 - Foreign Affairs & Trade

Jennifer Baker is joined by Antti Timonen, spokesperson for the EPP Group, to discuss EU-Japan negotiations for a Strategic Partnership Agreement and a Free Trade Agreement.

The Strategic Partnership Agreement aims at developing dialogue and cooperation across a wide range of political and sectoral areas. Antti Timonen expects the conclusion of  this agreement to be reached in April 2014. Japan is the EU’s second biggest trading partner in Asia, after China. According to the spokesperson for the EPP Group, a Free Trade Agreement  between the EU and Japan would bring great benefits for the EU economy: “It would create new jobs and increase EU GDP“.

The fourth round of the EU-Japan trade talks is taking place on 27-31 January.
