Lénaïc Vaudin d’Imécourt is joined by Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, spokeswoman of the European Commission, to talk about the EU-China Investment Agreement, due to be discussed during the upcoming meeting of the Foreign Affairs and Trade Council.
During the meeting in Luxembourg, the EU Member States’ Trade Ministers will discuss the Commission’s request for a mandate to negotiate a stand-alone agreement on investment with China. Such an arrangement could mean a needed boost for Europe’s economy from the Asian giant. The EU has several objectives in the negotiations with China, such as to secure investment protection and increased market access for European goods. ‘This is the first step, but later on we want to have even more ambitious talks with China’ states the spokeswoman.
