September 24, 2014 - Foreign Affairs & Trade

Jennifer Baker is joined by Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, spokeswoman of the European Commission, to discuss the European Union-Canada Summit on Friday 26 September.

The President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso will meet the Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper in Ottawa on Friday 26 September. The EU-Canada Summit will announce the conclusion of the negotiations on the Agreement on Strategic Partnership (SPA). What is more, the completion of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is expected to be announced after five years of negotiations. Ahrenkilde Hansen stresses that such an economic partnership between the EU and Canada would bring benefits to both parties, as it will remove 99 percent of tariffs between the two economies.
