Interview with Dacian Ciolo? Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development during “The CAP post 2013”, Conference on the public debate, Brussels, 19-20 July 2010.
The conference is aimed at providing a stage for all interested parties to contribute to the Common Agricultural Policy and its future development as Europe’s largest common policy. As the Commissioner for Agriculture states that the conference hosts very different opinions. The pressing topic of this two-day conference is the reforms of the CAP’s first pillar, regarding direct payments. Commissioner Ciolo? calls for more coherence between the two pillars, saying that the aim of the upcoming policy reform is to make it more ‘transparent, open, fare and linked to clear objectives’. Taking into consideration the discussions and ideas, shared during the conference, the next step is to consult the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union. The Commissioner shares that ‘in order to have clear and efficient negotiations, clear objectives are necessary’.
