Most difficult hearings for Commissioners-designate Cañete, Hill & Navracsics, argue the Greens

September 24, 2014 - EU Institutions

Jennifer Baker is joined by Helmut Weixler, spokesperson for the Greens Group, to talk about the hearings of the Commissioners-designate by the European Parliament and to identify the Commissioners who will face the most difficult hearings, according to the Greens.

Weixler underlines that the Greens see Miguel Arias Cañete, designated to become Climate Action and Energy Commissioner, as the most problematic and controversial candidate. The Greens’ spokesperson also expresses his doubts about whether Britain’s Jonathan Hill, Commissioner-designate for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union, is the right person for that position. Moreover, the Greens predict a difficult hearing for Hungary’s Tibor Navracsics proposed to become the next Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Citizenship. Weixler concludes by arguing that the new Juncker Commission is “very business oriented”, which might lead Europe in the wrong direction.
