December 14, 2014 - EU Institutions

Jennifer Baker is joined by Natasha Bertaud, spokesperson for the European Commission, to talk about the 2015 European Commission Work Programme as well as President Jean-Claude Juncker’s strategy to deliver on the Commission’s priorities.

Bertaud underlines that the Juncker Commission is “coming forward with much more focused and concrete objectives“. The work programme for 2015 contains of a list of new initiatives but also indicates pieces of pending legislation that will be withdrawn. Scrapped proposals, particularly those of environmental and social nature, “will be proposed again, but in a different and more effective way“. This means that they will have a more realistic chance of being adopted, argues the spokesperson. She also stresses that the Juncker Commission will set a more ambitious agenda for 2015, giving a practical effect to the political priorities.
