Jennifer Baker is joined by Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, for an exclusive interview on European innovation policies.
In the interview, Innovation Commissioner states that the economic crisis gave an important lesson to Europe: “countries who continued to invest in the area of research and innovation despite the crisis, are also the countries that are at the top of the three”. According to Geoghegan-Quinn, we should see innovation as part of a bigger picture: “investment today will not bring the solution tomorrow, but if you want to have sustainable jobs in the future, you must invest now”, claims the Commissioner. She also points out the top growth areas for innovation: health care, climate change and environment, sustainable agriculture and transport. Geoghegan-Quinn invites to discuss how these innovation areas could bring European economy growth & jobs and look for future innovation solutions at the 2nd Innovation Convention, that will take place on 10 and 11 March in Brussels.
