This month’s plenary is now in full swing. Today, MEPs will gather to prepare the European Council held on 18-19 February 2016. Two main foci are on the table for this Council: Brexit and the migration crisis. Antti Timonen, EPP Group spokesperson, unveils his group’s stance, priorities and expectations with respect to those critical issues.
On Brexit, Timonen emphasises the importance of ‘buidling bridges‘ and focusing on the converging points, common to the EU and the UK. Will the lack of concrete proposals from Cameron hamper negotiations? On the migration crisis, Timonen points out his group’s aim: ‘sustainably reduce the number of migrants’ through different media: toughening of EU external borders, collaborating with Turkey, supporting FRONTEX and rethinking the current asylum seekers relocation scheme.
