Jennifer Baker is joined by Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, Spokeswoman of the European Commission (EC), to discuss the inauguration of the European Commission’s Emergency Response Centre (ECR).
On Wednesday, 15th of May, the ECR will officially open, with the aim to set better coordinated, faster and more efficient response to natural and man-made disasters in Europe and beyond.
Any country inside or outside the EU affected by a major disaster can make an appeal for assistance through the ERC. In response, the ERC matches offers of assistance to the needs of the disaster-stricken country.
“If these changes do not occur in an open and transparent way, with the cooperation of the opposition, with rights for the opposition, then you can very strongly assert they [Hungary] are not converging with the Union values.”
