Waste shipments directive ensures strict control, argue the Greens

Jennifer Baker is joined by Helmut Weixler, spokesperson for the Greens’ Group, to discuss the waste shipments directive, due to be voted on in the Environment Committee (Envi) on Wednesday 19 March.

The waste shipments directive aims to tackle the problem of illegal waste shipments to third countries. According to Weixler, this directive is a big step forward in closing current legal loopholes and entailing better inspections, that control waste exporters. What is even more important, the information about these inspections will be public: “every citizen will know, what kinds of waste are exported, if they raise any risks or if they are harmful”.
