EU must set up ambitious 2020 goal to cut carbon emissions by 30%, claims EU Climate Commissioner

September 29, 2010 - Environment & Transport

Commissioner for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard on the debate to cut Carbon Emissions by 30% by 2020.

Commissioner Hedegaard explains how the EC has changed their way of thinking from a clear negotiation gamble strategy to an approach, which explains that raising the carbon cut goal is in Europe’s own interest. She expresses her confidence that the EC proposal is backed by the German, French and British governments. ‘Europe has created a fantastic front-runner position in creating energy-efficient solutions‘, states Ms Hedegaard, reminding, however, that ‘the more ambitious we will be up to 2020 and after, the less steep the road to the low-carbon society will be’.
