“Air quality needs systemic approach”, says new Head of European Environment Agency (EEA)

Leading environment journalist Sonja van Renssen is joined by Hans Bruyninckx, the new executive director of the European Environment Agency (EEA) to talk about air quality.

The EEA recently released a report urging a more effective implementation of the EU air policy in urban areas. Hans Bruyninckx believes it is crucial that EU member states understand the dynamics of air pollution at national level, which will help the implementation of the EU air policy.

Regarding the EU air quality policy review, due for Autumn, the EEA expects the 2020 goals to be reached as well as being able to formulate strong goals by 2020/25.

“We should also be trying to connect this [transport] to the consumption site and align our policies on consumptive habits with air quality.”
