Energy security: concerns about “how to keep Russian gas flowing to EU and Ukraine”, emphasises Commission

October 23, 2014 - Energy

Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, spokeswoman of the European Commission, discusses how the European Union can increase its security of energy supply, ahead of the European Council meeting on 23 and 24 October.

In light of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, leaders of EU member states will debate how the EU can strengthen its energy independence. Ahrenkilde Hansen points out that reaching agreement on the 2030 climate and energy package is very high on the agenda, as it is a central tool in creating an efficient internal energy market and reducing Europe’s dependence on energy imports.
