ECR MEP Edvard Kožušník interviews leading Cuban dissident Guillermo Fariñas, after he attends the ECR Group Meeting. Fariñas is an independent journalist and political dissident in Cuba. He has conducted 23 hunger strikes over the years to protest various elements of the Cuban regime. He has stated that he is ready to die in the struggle against censorship in Cuba. In 2010 Fariñas was awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought by the European Parliament but he was only allowed to travel in 2013 to collect it.
ECR group leader Syed Kamall warned that ideology and dogma were paralysing the EU. Instead he argued for more practical cooperation, recognising that in the migration crisis every country may have a different contribution to make.
Radicalisation, Ukraine and Greece were the main topics of European Conservatives and Reformists Group Chairman Syed Kamall's speech to the European Parliament ahead of an informal meeting of EU leaders to discuss these topics.
