Rose O’Donovan, editor of Agra Facts / Agra Focus, met with Paola Testori Coggi, Director-General for Health and Consumers at the European Commission, during the Animal Welfare Conference jointly organized by the European Commission and the Danish EU Presidency to discuss the EU Animal Welfare Strategy.
Ms Testori Coggi states that she firmly believes that animal welfare has become a fundamental pillar of European society (00:38). She continues to stress the importance of animal welfare, particularly in the context of the current economic crisis (03:51). Furthermore, the Director-General believes that priority should be given to raising awareness among consumers that the EU has the highest animal welfare standards in the world (05:07). Finally, Paola Testori Coggi briefly touches upon important topics such as food labelling with regard to animal welfare (06:16), live animal transport (07:30) and animal cloning (08:12) in the European Union.
