Aim of tobacco products directive is to keep youngsters off cigarettes, says ECR Group

July 10, 2013 - Citizens & Consumers

Jennifer Baker is joined by James Holtum, spokesperson for the ECR Group, to discuss the parliamentary committee’s vote on the revision of the tobacco products directive on Wednesday.

The revision of the directive will be discussed in the ENVI committee and aims at introducing restrictions on tobacco products. MEPs hope to discourage young European citizens in particular to start smoking. E-cigarettes are a hot topic on the agenda: “These can be quite useful”, says Holtum, and “should be authorised under the usual procedures and not as a medical device [as is the case]”.
