What should be the EU's negotiating strategy in the global climate talks after Copenhagen ?
Video debate hosted by Sonja van Renssen (ENDS), with Jo Leinen (MEP) and Jos Delbeke (Director General DG Climate Action).
After months of careful – and at times painful – preparation, the EU rode to the Danish capital on a wave of optimism. Then reality came crashing in: the rest of the world wasn't quite there yet. After the disappointment of the Copenhagen climate summit, the question on everyone's lips is: what will the EU do now? How can it reassert itself and breathe life back into the negotiations? These questions are more pertinent than ever as the EU leadership is forced to acknowledge there will be no legally binding treaty by the end of this year and the very science of climate change comes under attack. New director-general of the European Commission's new climate department, Jos Delbeke, and chair of the European Parliament's environment committee, Jo Leinen, discuss a way forward.
