On 24 January 2013, the Agriculture Committee (AGRI) in the European Parliament voted on a series of reform proposals of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), meaning more targeted payments and a more sustainable agricultural model.

George Lyon MEP (UK, Liberal Democrat), ALDE team leader in the Agriculture Committee, said the outcome of the vote was very good and represents a big step forward for farmers and Member States.

The AGRI Committee only voted on compromised  amendments this week, it was not the final vote. The Parliament’s plenary (March 2013 tbc) will have to approve the AGRI committee vote before subsequent talks with the Council.
